South Africa’s bowlers stole the show in Leeds as Keshav Maharaj picked up four big wickets and Wiaan Mulder added three more, leaving England struggling in the first ODI.
The only shining light in the England side was Jamie Smith, who flattened the half-century, but the whole batting line-up had no solution to the bowling attack by the South Africans. There were also a wicket each by Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi to keep the pressure on.
With Maharaj spinning magic and Mulder striking early, South Africa now look firm favourites to chase down England’s modest total.
