The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a Rs20 million fine on fast bowler Naseem Shah following a disciplinary hearing related to a social media post concerning Maryam Nawaz. The decision was announced after a three-member committee reviewed the matter under the board’s central contract and social media guidelines.
According to the PCB, the player was issued a show-cause notice and later appeared before the disciplinary committee for a personal hearing. The board stated that multiple clauses of the central contract had been breached, leading to the financial penalty despite the player submitting an unconditional apology.
In its official statement, the PCB said:
"The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the outcomes of disciplinary committee proceedings pertaining to breaches of various clauses of Naseem Shah's Central Contract and the PCB Social Media Guidelines."
The board added that the player’s social media adviser had already been dismissed and would be blacklisted from working with players contracted under the PCB.
"Whilst noting the unconditional apology tendered, Naseem is found to have breached various clauses of his Central Contract and a fine of PKR 2 crores has been imposed," the statement said.
The issue originated during the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League 11 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Maryam Nawaz attended as chief guest. A post from Naseem Shah’s social media account later drew attention and sparked discussion online before being deleted.
The fast bowler later stated that his account had been hacked and clarified that the post was not made intentionally. However, after reviewing the case, the PCB proceeded with disciplinary action under its player conduct and digital media policies.
