Shahid Afridi Launches Fierce Criticism of Pakistan Selectors Following Series Loss

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi took aim at the selection committee after the green shirts lost the recent ODI series by 2-1 against Bangladesh. He said the responsibility of the defeat should be equally shared by the selection committee, as they are the ones who picked an inexperienced side for the recent Bangladesh tour.

Posting a brief video on social media, Shahid Afridi said that the members of the Pakistan selection committee have played plenty of international cricket, so they should have an idea about who should be picked in the team based on their performances.

“You saw the performances in the 2026 T20 World Cup, and after that we also lost the Bangladesh series 2–1. In my opinion, the selection committee deserves criticism. All of you in the committee have played so much cricket, yet you still don’t seem to have the idea of who should be the captain for which format,” said Shahid Afridi in a social media post.

He further said that the Pakistan selection committee is repeating the same mistakes again and again, which is why the team is failing to produce strong performances at the international level.

“You keep making too many decisions in the name of ‘surgery’. What you are doing is picking youngsters and players who have barely played a few first-class matches. Your domestic cricket is not even of that standard that it can consistently produce players ready to secure a place in the Pakistan team,” said Shahid Afridi.

Afridi then said that some senior players deserved to be in the team, as their performances in the ODI format have been good and they could have turned the series in Pakistan’s favor.

“The senior players who actually deserved their place, even if they didn’t have strong T20 performances, had very good records in ODIs. But in the name of ‘surgery’, you sidelined those experienced players despite their solid ODI performances.” said Shahid Afridi.
